I’m so excited about my new website! There are so many awesome projects and content that I have planned and I’m so stoked to share them with you. I’m also so excited to share more about me and what goes on in my crazy life!
I wanted to start off by telling you a little bit about myself. My name is Jocelyn. A lot of my friends and family call me “Joce”. I also have a second nickname…. “Juice”. Seriously it’s the worst nickname ever haha but my brother-in-law and husband came up with it and they think it’s so funny. I was born in San Fernando, California but was raised in Logan, Utah. My parents moved to Logan when I was 3 so Logan is home to me. I have a brother and a sister who are both younger than I am. They’re the best! My parents are from Guatemala. That’s where I get my brown skin from! They are such amazing parents! I love them very much! Fun fact: Spanish was my first language! I love talking about where my family comes from and am happy to answer any questions about it.
I went to USU (GO AGGIES!) and got my associates degree there. My husband (Kyle) and I also met in Logan (I’ll write a post about this with more details in a few weeks). He graduated from USU with a bachelor’s degree in MIS, which is IT related. Basically he’s nerd. We sadly don’t live there anymore but we go back often to visit my family.
After I got my associates degree, I decided to take a break from school. I couldn’t decide on a major. I kept taking classes for different majors and ended up hating all of them and spending loads of money. School is so expensive! About a year later, we got pregnant with Elijah. Yay! I worked at USU in the Registrar’s Office throughout my whole pregnancy and I had planned to go back to work after I had Eli. Once I had Eli, I realized that I absolutely loved working for USU but loved being a stay at home mom even more. Kyle and I have always said that our goal would be to have me stay at home with our kids. Luckily, Kyle was able to find a better paying job outside of Cache Valley that made it so I could stay home with our little Eli. It was definitely the best decision we have made in our marriage so far!
While I was pregnant with Eli, Kyle gave me my first DSLR camera. I had mentioned to him how much I loved making music videos with my friends in high school as well as home videos so he was so sweet and bought me one so I could start making videos again! I definitely lucked out in the husband department! At the time wedding videography wasn’t as big as it is now. I was working with a girl who was getting married and I thought to myself, “why not ask her if I could make a little video of her and her fiancé?!” So I did and she was so sweet and said yes! Shout out to Kevyn and her hubby Cody! I was super pregnant but man I had so much fun! I went home that night and told Kyle about how fun it was and how for the first time in my life, I felt like this is what I passionate about. Without hesitation he told me “Why don’t you make a business out of it?” I had to unfortunately put that on pause because I was about a 2 months away from having Eli and was too big to do much haha. Once I had Eli, I was able to go all in with my business. Videography has brought a different type of happiness to my life. It has made me realize that I’m actually really good at something. I know that sounds a bit cocky but for once in my life, I felt like I was born to do this! I’m so glad I decided to peruse my dream!
